On August 16, 2022, the CalFresh County Healthy Living team and CommuniCare Heath Centers will co-host a Healthy Snack Day in Woodland to showcase innovative ways to choose healthy snacks between meals and as part of a balanced diet.

The event will provide attendees with recipes, tips, and tools to help individuals and families achieve healthy snack wins with every choice they make, whether on the go or at home.

According to a city press release, this free event will be held at CommuniCare’s Hansen Family Health Center, located at 215 W. Beamer St. , 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a one-hour break starting at noon when the health center is closed for lunch. Healthy Snack Day is a statewide movement and part of CalFresh’s Wins Healthy Living campaign.

Attendees will participate in fun and hands-on activities to learn about healthy snack options for every flavor craving – sweet, salty, crunchy and spicy. In addition, a healthy snack recipe will be presented and available for a taste test. Activities include:

  • Origami Snack Finder – A foldable paper game for kids that encourages healthy snacking based on their favorite flavors and includes homemade recipe cards.
  • Healthy Snack Day Pledge – Dry erase boards allow attendees to document their pledge to reach healthy snacks for themselves and their families. Sharing on social media channels is encouraged!
  • Personal Recipe Finder – A digital experience on www.HealthySnackDay.com that helps users select the perfect recipe for snacks based on their favorite ingredients.
  • Taste Test – One of our signature healthy snack recipes will be prepared on site and available for sampling

About three-quarters of the US population has an eating pattern that is low in vegetables, fruits, and dairy products. Most Americans also consume more than the recommended amounts of added sugars, saturated fats, and sodium. Making transitions into a healthy, balanced eating pattern — including snacks — can help people get the nutrients they need, maintain a healthy weight, and reduce the risk of chronic disease.
